Thermometers are hardly ever used to check the temperature of a steak. There's barely enough meat to get the thermometer into to get an accurate reading in most steaks. I suggest looking up "how to cook a steak" for pointers on how to tell how done a steak is. Timing and touch are the most usual ways of telling, and when you think you're close to how done you want it, it's okay to cut in with a knife to check, but only do that once so you don't lose too much juice from the steak.Read more
