Each way is 4 miles of reasonably steep switchbacks culminating in a fire lookout on the top.Once you have reached the top, there are spectacular views looking at the surrounding mountains with Mount Rainier being the most dramatic. In winter there is heavy snow so you would need ice ax and crampons but in the summer tennis shoes are fine as long as you are capable of doing some rock scrambling in the last half mile. This is not appropriate for any hikers with mobility issues as it is a rugged uneven dirt trail.Make sure to bring sun protection and plenty of water.I strongly recommend WTA.com, the Washington Trail Association website, for the latest trip reports to make sure the trail conditions are appropriate for your capabilities. They also have detailed directions how to get there.A discover pass is required for parking. This is a popular hike so get there early.... less
