The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum showcases a vast variety of quilts, exploring historical traditions, evolving themes, and emerging trends in quilting. Born of a love for this age old art form, the museum is a tribute to the unflagging generosity of local resident, Eugenia Mitchell, whose personal collection forms the core of the museum and her vision, its spirit. The museum's permanent collection consists of over 550 quilts, the oldest of which date back to the early 1800s, showcased alongside contemporary art quilts. The museum is also home to the Sandra Dallas Library - a volunteer run repository of books, pamphlets, DVDs and other articles that offer a wide variety of information about the art of quilting. Various temporary exhibitions and educational programs are hosted at the museum, adding to an already intriguing offer. Local artwork and quilt themed gifts are available at the museum gift shop.... less

Since my wife is a quilter, we probably spent more time than usual looking at the quilts.... less

We went with a small child which maybe wasn't the best idea though she enjoyed looking at the children's books available to look at. Maybe a small quilt that kids could handle would be a good idea? I kept saying "Don't touch!"The ladies at the front desk were friendly, the shop has a great range of fabric and notions and we enjoyed the visit. Worth going to as part of a visit to Golden.... less

I am a quilter, and this is just the neatest place. I am very inspired by the beautiful modern quilts and lovely antique quilts that I saw. Even if you are not that into quilting, the displays are great works of art that can be appreciated by all. While some might say the display is small, it really isn't. It takes a while to look at the various quilts and techniques used. We were there for over an hour. My husband really liked it, too. He saw things in some of the quilts that I would have missed had he not been with me. The docents were great and the store had a good selections of notions, books, and fabric. We definitely will come back to see new displays when we are in Golden.... less
