What you will be disappointed with is the way the trails are marked and how they do not correspond much with he map provided at the entree of the preserve. You will find paths marked with blue and red blazes when that is not an option listed on their map, you will find a purple blazed path in the northern part of the preserve when it is only labeled on the map at the end, you will find small paths labeled on the map that just don’t exist. Just fair warning on that front. Getting lost and wandering around the path honestly isn’t a huge problem because it is just so unbelievably lovely and you won’t be mad to do that.... less

It's mainly used by mountain bikers, but we had a terrifically exhausting time going up hills, down valleys, climbing granite boulders, glacial erratics and rock outcroppings.  The air is clean and the view is beautiful.  The wooded trails are surrounded by tiny lichen, ferns and woodland creatures.  We saw small salamanders, frogs, squirrels, chipmunks and lots of birds.  There was evidence of deer, but we didn't come across any. There are two mountains here, the Spitzenberg and Blue Mountain.  A five-mile hiking loop includes both of them or you can modify the hike to include only one or neither. It is suggested to visit on a weekday if you are looking for solitude, since mountain biking is popular on the weekend.  (Check ahead to make sure there are no mountain bike races planned.) This place is great. It’s more for soft hiking with some elevations depending on which trails you take with beautiful surroundings. It felt like we were a million year away from the city. It’s very easy to navigate and it’s well maintained. The amazing thing is that we crossed more wild animals than humans. We crossed 2 bikers during the whole time we were there. We had to pay $10 for parking. There might be other areas to enter to skip the fee. I loved it and will be back. Great spot for mountain bike, easy hiking, picnic.... less
