MoreThe First Ward House is a local landmark that has been serving the denizens of St. Joseph since 1878. Considered to be one of the region's oldest bars, the First Ward House lies at the center of many tall tales and true stories, and is even rumored to have once served the infamous Jesse James. In 1950, the top two floors of the First Ward House were demolished so that the bricks could be used to rebuild the city's historic Pony Express stables. While most would imagine that this local legend would be pulled down a peg or two when a fire broke out and caused major damage in 2015, but the First Ward House simply dusted itself off and got right back to business. The bar remains a popular local hangout and hosts a varied schedule of live music performances, karaoke nights and other events. Alongside the lusty libations served at the bar, First Ward House also offers a delicious selection of juicy hamburgers, smokey BBQ, succulent chicken wings, salads, sandwiches and wraps. Less
