Historically, it was a Chumash Native American settlement; today this park offers a respite from the dense crowds at more famous Californian beaches and gardens. The only commercial venture here is a convenience store providing fish bait and tackle, firewood and beers. The rest of the space is mostly occupied by a campground and picnic spot where visitors set up their trailers and tents. Whale and bird-watching, fishing, photography and surfing are popular activities at this oceanfront park. Plants like searocket, saltbush and abronias (sand verbenas) grow in abundance here, while the water is dominated by fish species like cabezon, halibut, and perch.
