MoreAs the ancestral home of the Kenan family, Liberty Hall is a treasured piece of local history. The existing plantation home was constructed in the early 1800s after a fire burned down the original mansion built by Thomas Kenan, the first to immigrate from Ireland and lay the roots of what came to be one of the state's most illustrious households. The plantation has been restored to its appearance during the Civil War, furnished with the family's heirlooms, art collections and antique furniture, bringing to life an era that has long been relegated to the pages of history. Guided tours of the house are offered for groups by prior appointment. The museum is open throughout the year, and there is also a gift shop and herb garden at Liberty Hall, both quite intriguing as well. Less
