MoreThe German American Cultural Society of RI was established in 1998 in order to help German expatriates mingle with their American counterparts and to introduce native American citizens to German customs, traditions, food and culture. It was formed by the merging of two cultural centers known as the Eintracht Singing Society and the German Dramatic Society of Onleyville, each of which had decades of experience in organizing cultural events. Today, this center hosts dance shows, musicals, food festivals and other cultural events besides conducting language classes. Of its various year-round festivals, the most prominent are the Octoberfest that celebrates German beer and cuisine, the Liederabende for German folk songs and Weinlesefest for winemakers. Less
