His 12-foot (3.6 meters) statue, by Elizabeth Cartlett, is erected near the brightly lit entrance on the outer boundary of the French Quarter. Ironically, Armstrong was not allowed to play in the now well-known clubs during his career. The park is also home to a bust of jazz maestro Sidney Bechet and cornetist Buddy Bolden.
