Maryland State House is the only state capitol that has also served as the nation's capitol, between 1783 to 1784, as the meeting place for the Congress of the Confederation. Behind the courtly Georgian facade of this edifice is where history has been created and iconic tales have been told. The state house resides on lush green lawns, its rotunda housing the revered Maryland Federalist ship. Upheld by Corinthian columns and elegant arches, the state house shelters ornate rooms and chambers, owning the largest wooden dome constructed without using nails in the United States, and is the oldest capitol building in continuous political use.
