MoreThe outer boroughs of New York City are full of surprises, and this is certainly one of them. The Edgar Allan Poe cottage was the final home of Poe and his wife Virginia. Poe wrote several of his more renowned poems, such as "Annabel Lee" and "Ulalume: A Ballad," in this sparsely furnished home, and when this dawns on you, it’s a revelation, an epiphany. An audiovisual tour describes Poe's life and his works. This is a treasure trove of history for fans of Poe. The well-preserved cottage gives a good perspective on life back then. The cottage, a part of the Historic House Trust and believed to have been built in 1797, has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places and administered by the Bronx County Historical Society since 1975. Originally located on Kingsbridge Road, the cottage was moved to its current location in Poe Park in 1913. Less
