MoreSpreading across thousands of acres, this expansive sanctuary is an enthralling fusion of wilderness and wildlife. What was once an undeveloped land is now a magnanimous harbor of a melange of animals. Strongly dedicated to preserving local wildlife, this refuge is also home to one of the last remaining fragments of the Everglades National Park. Many different animals call the reserve home, including over 250 species of birds (one endangered) and alligators. A major part of the refuge is swathed in Everglades freshwater marsh, however, pine flatwoods and bald cypress swamps also dominate its expanse. A winding boardwalk weaves through the swampland at this refuge which hosts a string of activities like hiking and fishing among others. Less
