MoreFor countless people worldwide, land holds immense significance as a vital source of livelihood and a cornerstone of economic rights. Additionally, it is intricately tied to individuals’ identities and deeply rooted in social and cultural rights. However, an alarming trend of forced evictions and displacements is emerging, driven by the rise of authoritarianism, insatiable greed for economic exploitation by private sector and industrialization. This results in vulnerable communities losing their lands and rights, often leading to devastating consequences. In many countries, access to and ownership of land are dictated by hierarchical and segregated systems, leaving the poorest and less educated without secure land tenure. Hence, Land Rights Defenders, was established in 2020 and incorporated on April 18, 2023 to address these issues and protect the rights of the deprived and vulnerable indigenous peoples who suffer exploitations from oppressive government who have no regard for the Universal Declaration on Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
