Opened to the public in 1978 after extensive renovations, it remains one of the finest residences in the city and no cost or innovation would be spared in its redesign. The whole mansion had electricity and plumbing for nine bathrooms when it was built in 1892, a major architectural triumph. Today it has a state-of-the-art heating system which regulates the heat in the mansion with 16 thermostats and custom-built furniture for the majority of its rooms.   It's amazing how many of the great mansions of Milwaukee have been lost to modern convenience. This home almost became a parking lot! It's a fabulous place and the docent was extremely knowledgeable.... More
