This venue showcases some of the most famous acts in rock music. Dating back to 1917, this eye-catching building is equipped with lush balcony seats and VIP-boxes. Its lower arena is usually filled with grungy teens or punk rockers ready to mosh. The Riviera is not known for its subtle use of the sound system, so bring earplugs if you want to be able to hear when you reach middle age! Ticket prices vary.... less

The energy in the place was great, it is a great venue as far as the "rock vibe", but it is pretty run down, and the only bathrooms are in the basement. The entire venue is general admission, with seating in the balcony. There was good drink service in the seated area (can't speak for the main floor).... less

When that time came around, they changed it and said 6:30. We eventually were let in at 7:15, but the show didn’t start till 8:30. Their lies were very inconvenient to us because of the less than 10 degree weather and snowfall. We couldn’t even get warm while we were inside (from waiting for over 3 hours in the cold) because they had the AC blasting. Tip: go by when the ticket says the door opens, not the people..... less

The place still has that nostalgic feel to it even moreso perhaps then ever. The entrance is smooth with a slight patdown and inside you go. Coat check ran smoothly and had 2 locations. The bars never had a line of more then 3 patrons which is pretty good considering the volume of people inside. Balcony seating is nice and plenty of room for general admission on the floor. Security seems pretty mellow inside as long as your not too crazy with what your doing. Sound is excellent on the floor I can’t say for the balcony as we were up close to the stage all evening.... less

For the money, the history, the hard-working bartenders and chill event staff, you can't find anything better. If dust and a line in the bathroom offends you, I suggest a night at home in your clean, sad apartment while Coldplay sobs in the background.... less

Loved seeing him perform live. I have been waiting years for BH to come to the states to play and was SO excited to see him but absolutely dreading coming to the Riviera. I honestly almost gave up my tickets because of the horrible reviews that I had read. Thankful that I didn't because it was an awesome experience. Was it warm inside? Yes. But, I was comfortable for the entire show. Were the drinks expensive? Yes. Of course they are, what is expected at ANY venue, especially in Chicago. The staff was professional and friendly, the bathrooms were clean and easy to get to/in and out of, and the sound/visuals were awesome. I hope that they can make some upgrades in the future and keep up with it's needs so that it doesn't fall to ruins someday. I love the history of these old theaters. Anyway, I will be back! So happy that we didn't miss out on an incredible night because of the previous reviews. I hope that others can enjoy the same experience that we did and give some more love to the Riv. :)... less
