Good Neighbors Since 1682. Our History. Yardley was settled by William Yeardley (as the name was then spelled), a Quaker minister seeking religious freedom who emigrated to America from England with his wife, three sons and a servant in July 1682.
Yardley was an important stop on the Underground Railroad for escaped slaves during the American Civil War. Yardley’s residents at the time were mostly Quakers, and helped countless escaped slaves on their journeys to freedom.

A Unique Bucks County Village - Historic Yardley. Yardley Borough is located along the Delaware River and is bordered by Lower Makefield Township. Until the mid-twentieth century, the surrounding countryside was still relatively open and in agricultural use.
Yardley Duck Walk. When visiting Yardley, you may notice some colorful quackers perched throughout the Borough. These four-foot-tall fiberglass ducks have been given essence and personality by seven local artists, and these larger-than-life creations are ready to waddle into your heart!

In the early 1800's Yardley began its development into a village, with a population of 820 by 1880. The first post office was established in 1828 with the name "Yardleyville." When the Reading Railroad came into the area, the name was changed to "Yardley."
