Skip James is one of the most revered Delta blues artists of the 20th century. His high, haunted vocal style and bone-chilling acoustic guitar work gave him a sound that set him apart from his peers. The recordings he made in the early 1930s are among the most powerful in the blues canon.

Illness forced him to retire and he died from a prolonged battle with cancer. In 1992 he was inducted into the Blues Foundation's Hall of Fame and in 2000, the eighteen only remaining Paramount recordings were released on an album entitled, “Skip James Today”. He is considered the greatest Blues man of the Delta.
