Yeah pretty much dead, KT killed this series with rushed release of DoA6 and their atrocious DLC policies. I don't know and don't care. I still play DOA 6 and consider that this game is criminally and unfairly underrated. Netcode is not bad (that's not SamSho7) and game is loads of fun.
Or alive. Depends on what you mean by " dead ". Team Ninja is currently more focused on their singleplayer Action Rpgs (Nioh, WoLong, Ronin). They've mentioned interest in returning to DoA at some point. The series is still active though. DoA5 has a decently healthy online scene and some local events and DoA6 as well.
