Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio ou Beltraffio (1466/1467 — 15 de Junho de 1516) foi um pintor italiano da Alta Renascença da Lombardia, que trabalhou com Leonardo da Vinci.
Historically the work was attributed to Marco d'Oggiono (c.1467-1524) and this was the artist named linked to the copy when the Royal Academy bought the painting. More recently it has been attributed to Giampietrino, a pupil of Leonardo although there is also the suggestion that Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio (1467-1516) may have worked on this copy as well.
Madonna and Child is an oil on canvas painting of 1495–96 by the Italian artist Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio. It is said by some scholars to be "the finest Leonardesque picture not painted by Leonardo himself. Sfumato is evident in the work. The wood upon which it was painted comes from the same batch as Leonardo's own Virgin of the Rocks.
The drastic cropping of the sheet around the head diminishes the visual impact of the drawing. This study is executed in the characteristic metalpoint technique on blue-gray prepared paper employed by Leonardo’s pupils between 1490 and 1500, and with especial mastery by Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio.
