Jul 10, 2023 · Norwich Castle, a magnificent Norman keep constructed in 1095 by William II, is built on a large artificial mound in the centre of Norfolk’s capital (and only) city as part of his campaign to defeat East Anglia after the Norman Conquest of England. Norwich Castle was a medieval royal fortification before becoming a gaol from 1220 to 1887.
