Winrar is licensed as "shareware", the license type is mostly outdated now, but back in the 90's you would see most software marketed as either freeware (free to use), shareware (free to try, pay to use), or just plain paid software.
WinRAR supports minimizing and the UI for both is just as crappy imo. It being lighter/pausing downloads automatically is definitely an actual reason for once however (I'm not sure how different those are from WinRAR, so I'm just taking those as fact).
this question kind of made me cringe a little bit. go to windows control panel> programs> change or uninstall programs, and choose it from the list. Using that method will safely remove it from your system. No, it wont kill all your files.
It's a good program. At home I use 7zip. I almost purchased mIRC once, but then decided that after 849 days of trial, I just wasn't quite sure I was ready for that kind of commitment.
