The Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame was founded in 1997. The first class of inductees consisted of 38 of the legendary figures in Southern Gospel music including singers, musicians, songwriters, and music publishers. That inaugural class was by far the largest class of inductees up to the present time.

With his tremendous impact and influence on the entire Southern Gospel community, Hickman is more than deserving of this honor. Dean began his career in Southern Gospel music at just 19 years old with The Golden Keys Quartet.

He also served as president of Sumar Talent Agency, vice-president for Stamps-Blackwood School of Music, and chairman of the board of directors for the International Gospel Music Hall Of Fame.
