I think fans view it more positively than they would have if the 2016 film never existed because when you have such a negative film that preceded it, You can only go up from there.

I thought Afterlife was terrible. The appeal of the original film is that it’s a slobs vs snobs comedy with some high concept horror stuff. Afterlife doesn’t have any jokes, it retreads the first movie with the Gozer stuff and all the characters are extremely half baked. I honestly don't really like Afterlife.
