The Grand Embassy was the name given to the long Western European tour that Tsar Peter I of Russia (aka Peter the Great, r. 1682-1725) undertook during 1697-1698. Mr. Hoekstra was born June 12, 1893, in Derlikum [sic] , Holland, and came to the United States in 1913. He married Florence De Boer December 17, 1917 at Sheldon. They lived near Sheldon and later moved to Hull. She died April 24, 1968. Mr. Hoekstra was an elder in the Protestant Reformed Church for many years.
