Abstract. In 1865, the German botanist Julius Sachs published a seminal monograph entitled Experimental-Physiologie der Pflanzen (Experimental Physiology of Plants) and hence became the founder of a new scientific discipline that originated 150 y ago. Here, we outline the significance of the achievements of Sachs.

Solution. In 1854, Julius Von Sachs proved that glucose is produced during the process of photosynthesis in the green parts of the plant. He also found that starch is the storage form of glucose in plants. Furthermore, he showed that chloroplast is the cell organelle that houses the green pigment chlorophyll in plants.
