HISTORY. Mercury Nashville operates as a part of Universal Music Group Nashville, was formed in 1958 and was originally a division of the Chicago-based Mercury Records.
Mercury was founded in 1945 by Irving Green, Berle Adams, and Arthur Talmadge in Chicago. During the 1950s and 1960s, an enormous amount of recordings were released not just by the Mercury label, but also several subsidiaries, such as Blue Rock Records, EmArcy Records, and Smash Records.

Later, she moved to New York City, looking for new worlds to conquer and she wound up, probably to her surprise, with a job at Mercury Records, put in charge of that label’s tiny classical music department. Five years later, in 1956, she was named vice-president of Mercury.
