There's even an urban legend saying that he was given an oscar only because the academy was afraid he'd hurt someone if he lost (Frederic March actually got more votes than Berry, but Berry and his team apparently insisted on getting one too so they were both winners that year).
Wallace Beery is a big worldbuilding factor in the 1991 Coen Brothers movie Barton Fink. In that film Beery's movies in the 1930s are framed as the most dumb, mercenary, and worthless sort of Hollywood busywork, that the studio would just crank out with a sort of contempt.
