Jan 22, 2002 · The method of this partical family getting together is Sunday dinners at Big Momma's house in which they enjoy the company of each other and some of the greatest Soul Food cooked in your own momma's kitchen. This isn't a boring movie or a goody goody movie, but more of a real life drama that some people viewing this movie can relate to.
Traditional Sunday dinners at Mama Joe's (Irma P. Hall) turn sour when sisters Teri (Vanessa L. Williams), Bird (Nia Long) and Maxine (Vivica A. Fox) start bringing their problems to the dinner table in this ensemble comedy. When tragedy strikes, it's up to grandson Ahmad (Brandon Hammond) to pull the family together and put the soul back into the family's weekly gatherings.

I cried when "Big Mama" died from diabetes and the character Teri was so mean/wanted to sell the house that "Big Mama" bought years ago; Maxine was "the strong one" who discovered Uncle Pete and he had Alzeimer's.
