Our review: Parents say ( 15 ): Kids say ( 44 ): This movie is muscley but ultimately forgettable entertainment. The story in Jack Reacher has enough twists to keep viewers interested, and Cruise playing stoic, confident, and extremely competent is always watchable. Plus, there are a few set pieces that are good fun.
Dec 21, 2012 · Dec 20, 2012. Jack Reacher, which Christopher McQuarrie directed from his adaptation of a Lee Child crime novel, is not just another dumb thriller. It's almost peerlessly self-important, weirdly incoherent and eerily smarmy. It's also mysteriously inept, considering that Tom Cruise plays the title role.
Reacher in the novels is as physically imposing as he is highly perceptive and intelligent. Reacher in the Tom Cruise movies is, well, Tom Cruise. (I watched the Tom Cruise Jack Reacher movies before reading the novel, and I really liked those movies. Still do. But Tom Cruise is not the perfect casting for Jack Reacher, I'll just leave it at that).
