In the preface, author Louise Wilkinson informed readers that she was preparing a new edition and translation of the roll to make it ‘accessible to as wide an audience as possible’. The result is The Household Roll of Eleanor de Montfort Countess of Leicester and Pembroke, 1265, now available, aptly enough, from the Pipe Roll Society.
Eleanor was youngest child and the only surviving daughter of Simon de Montfort, earl of Leicester (c. 1208-1265) and his wife, Eleanor (1215?-1275), countess of Pembroke and Leicester. Eleanor's brothers were Henry de Montfort, Simon de Montfort, Amaury de Montfort, Guy de Montfort and Richard de Montfort.
