I get what you mean, but there is a pretty stark tone shift between the 1st and 2nd season. S1 was mostly a somewhat corny and sleazy (at times) harem series dominated by (light) comedy, while this season (maybe except from Muriel’s part) a romantic drama series with serious dilemmas and stakes.
