The Beyond is an incoherent, chaotic combination of Italian terror and monster movie grave robbing that is almost saved by its bleak, atmospheric ending. It is a wretched gore fest sprinkled with wonderfully evocative touches.

Jul 3, 1998 · First released in 1981 as "Seven Doors of Death," directed by Louis Fuller, it now returns in an "uncut original version" as "The Beyond," directed by Lucio Fulci. Fulci, who died in 1996, was sort of an Italian Hershell Gordon Lewis.
The Beyond is a hauntingly bizarre slice of weirdo Fulci that leaves us, the viewer, catatonic with an expertly orchestrated journey into the nether regions of chaotic hopelessness... a southern gothic menagerie equal parts disturbing and out there mind boggling—A surrealistic nightmare carnival of doom.
