Whatever role he played, the Clown would never subsume his personality in the character; the Clown in Twelfth Night does not become Feste, but plays Feste. The Clown is "occupying a space in front of the fiction" (Mann 57) so as to join the audience in laughing at the fiction in which he and they are also participants.
Antonio. Antonio is an enigmatic character in the play who heightens the main themes. He first appears imploring Sebastian to either stay with him longer, or allow him to accompany the younger man when he leaves. Antonio is quite dramatic in the language he uses, imploring, “If you will not murder me for my love, let me be your servant” (2.1.).

In Twelfth Night, Shakespeare plays with the intersections of love and power. The Countess Olivia is presented to us at the play’s beginning as an independent and powerful woman. The sudden deaths of her father and her brother have left her in charge of her own household and have thereby given her power over such male relatives as Sir Toby Belch.
Sebastian is noble and capable of strong, deeply felt emotion, just like his sister. The constant powerful love he shows while grieving and when reunited with Viola contrasts Orsino's and Olivia's relatively frivolous emotions. He is also the only major character in the play who never engages in deception.
