University of Edinburgh Medical School is the oldest medical school in the UK, and one of the oldest in the English-speaking world, dating back to 1726 where it was formed during the Scottish Enlightenment. It has contributed hugely to success in the teaching of Medicine and surgery through the introduction of the first teaching hospital.
