MacDonald, Philip. Philip MacDonald (1889-1980), who also wrote as Oliver Fleming, Anthony Lawless and Martin Porlock, was an English thriller and crime writer. Macdonald was the grandsdon of the writer George MacDonald. He served with the cavalry in Mesopotamia during WWI and later trained horses for the army.
The story was made into a film with a screenplay by Philip MacDonald which was directed by Michael Powell in 1932. It starred Claude Horton as Gethryn but is now missing, believed lost.
