The movie makes the book look like a masterclass of a character study by comparison. *To be honest, I didn't love the book to start with. Herbert really excels at worldbuilding a complex culture and ecology, and I found the plot generally entertaining, but the writing and characterization both oscillate between passable and straight-up bad.
