Richard II (6 January 1367 – c. 14 February 1400 ), also known as Richard of Bordeaux, was King of England from 1377 until he was deposed in 1399. He was the son of Edward, Prince of Wales (later known as the Black Prince), and Joan, Countess of Kent.

Richard II (1367-1400), came to the throne as a boy of ten in 1377, at a time when the Hundred Years War with France was turning against the English. His father, the Black Prince, an outstanding soldier, had died in 1376, leaving Richard as Edward III's heir.
King of England from 1377, effectively from 1389, son of Edward the Black Prince. He reigned in conflict with Parliament; they executed some of his associates in 1388, and he executed some of the opposing barons in 1397, whereupon he made himself absolute.
Richard II may easily be thought of as “that other Richard”: not the Lionheart (Richard I), and not the “evil” Richard III of the War of the Roses. He was the son of the famous Black Prince, and grandson of Edward III.
