Jan 1, 2004 · Shantaram is a huge book at 933 pages. I enjoyed 95% of it. There is some warlord gang fighting that occurs toward the end of the book and this seems to drag on for a while but all in all, I enjoyed the book very much Shantaram is on Apple TV. The 12 part miniseries is fantastic, but unfortunately was discontinued.

Gregory David Roberts (born Gregory John Peter Smith; 1952 [1]) is an Australian author best known for his novel Shantaram.He is a former heroin addict and convicted bank robber who escaped from Pentridge Prison in 1980 and fled to India, where he lived for ten years.
His debut novel, SHANTARAM, is based on this ten-year period of his life in Bombay. The result is an epic tale of slums and five-star hotels, romantic love and prison torture, mafia gang wars and Bollywood films.
