She is the daughter of Laura Moncada and Willy Mendoza. Her parents are from Aragua and Táchira, respectively. Mendoza can be a surname of Basque etimology and origin.
Dayana Mendoza is a former beauty queen, winning Miss Venezuela 2007, and later, Miss Universe 2008. She is also known as a contestant from Season 5 of NBC's Celebrity Apprentice. Mendoza beat 27 other candidates to win Miss Venezuela 2007 and became only the second woman representing the Amazonas state to win, following Carolina Izsak in 1991.
