The pacing of the film is also a little on the slow side so if you're easily bored at slow dramas then watch something else. In the end, Dark Water is an effective thriller with strong performances and a creepy atmosphere. Those wanting a horror film should look elsewhere. Rating 8/10. 29 out of 42 found this helpful.

The film is based on Floating Water, a short story by Koji Suzuki (who also wrote the Ring series of novels), from his horror anthology also titled Dark Water. There is also a manga adaptation that holds little similarity to the film, although the apartment building is similar. The film was remade in the United States in 2005, under the same title.
The movie Dark Water (2005) was billed as a horror movie. On the surface, it does appear to be one — there’s a ghost, a haunting, a corpse where it shouldn’t be, and some mild terrorizing of a family. Newly single mom, played by Jennifer Connelly, moves herself and her young daughter into an apartment building. From the start, things are off.
