The best places to see the Hollywood Sign are Griffith Observatory and Hollywood & Highland. You can hike toward the Sign along trails in Griffith Park, but you cannot get too close. If you’re approaching the Observatory from below, there are two main trails most people take. Very few trails are actually signed in Griffith Park, but I tracked down an old map that called this – unsurprisingly – the Boy Scout Trail (formerly known as the East Observatory or East Griffith Observatory Trail).
Visitors should use the Brush Canyon Trail from Canyon Drive, two blocks to the east of Beachwood Drive off Franklin, or Griffith Observatory. Canyon has a parking lot, sidewalks, trash cans, and facilities for visitors. Parking is limited and fills up quickly at Griffith Park so using the DASH Observatory shuttle is recommended.
