Jan 3, 2018 · The camera shots, the music and stiff acting all helped create a sense of dread and a cold detached world. Something feels "off" and that helps make things more shocking. As the film goes deeper into madness the feeling of dread keeps building up, the ending comes out of nowhere and blows your mind.
The entire film feels very uncomfortable, the lines are purposely delivered in a strange way and the strange shots make everything feel off. It can be creepy. In one scene, Steven attempts to force feed his son. This and the theme of characters refusing to eat may be triggering for some. Overall a very weird and disturbing movie.
At first, we're naturally inclined to think that Martin is doing something comprehensible to the children to cause their paralysis, like poisoning them in some way.
