Entamoeba caviae resembles Entamoeba coli from man ( Fig. 32 ). The trophozoites are 10.5–20.0 μm (14.4 μm) in diameter with an eccentric or central nucleolus. The ectoplasm and endoplasm are not clearly differentiated. Although Nie (1950) observed no cysts, both Holmes (1923) and Faust (1950) did. Cysts are rarely found.
Entamoeba polecki, a cosmopolitan parasite of pigs and monkeys, is rarely diagnosed in humans. It most closely resembles E. coli, although the cysts tend to be smaller measuring 5–11 μm in diameter. Endolimax nana is a small ameba that typically produces ovoid cysts measuring 5–14 μm in diameter ( Figure 13 (e) ).

Mature cyst has 4 nuclei - fine peripheral chromatin, small compact central karyosome and may have elongate chromatoidal bodies which have blunt or rounded smooth edges. Entamoeba coli cyst 10 - 33 microns 1 to 8 nuclei with coarse peripheral chromatin and a coarse eccentric karyosome in a faecal smear stained with Iodine. Harmless commensal.
