They would marry on March 1, 1873, and Antrim became Henry’s stepfather. It is believed that this is where he would pick up his later moniker of “Billy” from his stepfather.

Bonney. The real Billy claimed to have killed 21 people before he died at the age of 21, even if some accounts feel he didn’t kill more than nine people in his life.

Henry McCarty (November 23, 1859 – July 14, 1881) was better known as Billy the Kid, but also known by the aliases Henry Antrim and William Harrison Bonney. He was a nineteenth century American frontier outlaw and gunman who was a participant in the Lincoln County War. He was reputed to have killed 21 men, one for each year of his life.
