He held the office of Lord Mayor of London between 1902 and 1903 and was created 1st Baronet Samuel in August 1903. He was created 1st Baron Bearsted of Maidstone in June 1921 and was created 1st Viscount Bearsted of Maidstone in June 1925. He died two years later at age 73.
