Johannes Kleiman's daughter Johanna (Jopie) was born in Amsterdam on 9 August 1927.On 27 May 1948, she married J.C. van den Broek. Her husband died in autumn 2009. The Kleiman family, consisting of Johannes (Jo), wife Johanna (Jo, later Joke) and daughter Johanna (Jopie, Jo), was also known as: Jo, Jo and Jo.
Sept. 11, 1944 Amersfoort. After their arrest, helpers Johannes Kleiman and Victor Kugler were held prisoner in Amsterdam from 4 August to 11 September. They stayed in adjacent cells. Then, they were taken to the Amersfoort prison camp. This was a SS prison camp for political prisoners and other criminal cases.
After a few weeks, the camp command released Johannes Kleiman on account of his poor health. Victor was transferred to Zwolle and then Wageningen. In March 1945, when marching in the direction of Nazi Germany with a large group of prisoners, he managed to escape when the column was shot at by allied planes.
Helpers Victor Kugler and Johannes Kleiman were arrested together with the eight people from the Secret Annex. The police officers took them away. By then, it was around 1 pm: the raid had taken a little over two hours. Jan Gies, the husband of helper Miep, came by to have lunch with the people in hiding, as he often did.
