Denver Dell Pyle (May 11, 1920 – December 25, 1997) was an American actor, businessman and director. He was well known for his roles as Briscoe Darling Jr. in The Andy Griffith Show , as Jesse Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard during 1979–1985, as Mad Jack in the NBC television series The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams .
Denver Dell Pyle was born in Bethune, Kit Carson County, Colorado, on May 11, 1920. His father Ben H. Pyle was a farmer by profession and his mother’s name was Maude. Denver also had a brother named Willis Acton Pyle who worked for Walt Disney Animation Studios as well as United Productions of America.

A World War II veteran who worked numerous odd jobs before becoming an actor, Denver Pyle appeared in over 200 television programs and is best known for his role as Uncle Jesse in the popular 1980s television series "The Dukes of Hazzard." Born in Bethune, Colorado, Pyle briefly attended college before enlisting in the Merchant Marines.
