Anton Bruckner was born in 1824 in Ansfelden as the oldest of 11 children. He was the son of Ansfelden’s village teacher. At the time, teachers also fulfilled the role of church organists, so Bruckner grew up surrounded by music, especially church and organ music. He learned to play the violin, the piano, and the organ.
