Sep 8, 2009 · "Love, Pain and the Whole Damn Thing" is one of those movies can be described as a guilty pleasure. Oh definitely not because of the plot - which is the usual guy-meets-girl, guy falls in love with girl, girl dies *thud*. In between this predictable story line were two strangers, poles apart, but both seeking the same thing.

Love and Pain and the Whole Damn Thing finally went into production in October of 1971, shot on location in Spain by the great British cinematographer Geoffrey Unsworth. Pakula, who also produced Love and Pain and the Whole Damn Thing, had trouble getting a distributor. The film finally went into limited release in the spring of 1973.
