Mar 23, 2004 · The Ransom (Special Edition) was a quite a disappointment due to the poor Windowbox formatting of the DVD. A Windowboxing format has an empty black bar on all four sides of the image (see photo) so that the entire movie is smaller.
Ransom! is a 1956 American crime drama film about the kidnapping of the son of a wealthy couple. Written by Richard Maibaum and Cyril Hume , the film is based on a popular 1954 episode of The United States Steel Hour titled "Fearful Decision" starring Ralph Bellamy .
The movie follows Tom Mullen (Mel Gibson), a wealthy airline owner, whose son, Sean, is kidnapped. When the ransom demand arrives, Tom decides to offer $2 million as the ransom. However, after the kidnappers receive the money, they fail to release Sean, and things take a turn for the worse.
